Distance-Based RFID Reader Collision Avoidance (DRCA) is based on the TDMA method. In this protocol, readers calculate their distance with the neighbor reader by measuring received signal strength. In this paper, a solution is provided to avoid collisions and readers’ simultaneous activities in dense passive RFID networks through the use of time division, CSMA techniques and measuring received signal power.
This motivated us to study the problem of activating readers and adjusting their interrogation ranges to cover maximum tags without collisions subject to the limited number of tags read by a reader, termed the reader-coverage . In this study, we propose a method that, by considering the distance between readers and the number of neighbourhoods, and the possibility of information sharing, allows readers to successfully read more tags with fewer collisions in a certain time frame. Our proposed method can reduce reader-to-reader collision through combining TDMA and FDMA mechanisms and benefiting from sift probability function and fairness. Furthermore, we found that distance comparison between two readers can reduce reader-to-tag collision as well. This paper attempts to establish a reader-to-reader collision avoidance model for stationary RFID systems with multiple-density tag distribution (R2RCAM-MTD) by considering that time slots and frequency channels are optimally allocated.
A Distance Based RFID Reader Collision Avoidance Protocol
The Reader-Coverage Collision Avoidance Arrangement (RCCAA) problem has been addressed to study how to enable readers and adjust their reading fields to query more tags without collision. In the mobile tags estimation model, we use superposition principle of Poisson process to solve the tag estimation problem. Based on these models, a new anti-collision algorithm specifically for the mobile RFID tags is proposed. There have been several works to solve the reader collision problem. While they employ time division, frequency division, space division, or centralized scheduling approach, in this paper, we introduce a cooperative, distributed reader collision avoidance algorithm.
