Tesco is rolling out item-level radio-frequency identification technology (RFID) to its F&F clothing range in hundreds more stores. The supermarket giant currently uses technology specialist SML’s RFID smart tags for F&F merchandise in 200 stores, and is now planning to install it across a further 300 stores. Tesco is currently completing the rollout of RFID technology to hundreds of F&F concessions in stores around the UK. So far, 200 have been equipped with the technology, and a further 300 will follow. RFspot’s robots have built-in RFID technology that can take inventory by reading passive UHF EPC Gen 2 RFID tags attached to merchandise. In line with the retailer’s Secure Supply Chain initiative (using RFID technology to track shipments of high-value nonfood goods), the retailer will attach RFID tag to its own shipping trays and dollies at its national distribution center in Milton Keynes before they are loaded and sent through its supply chain to retail stores.
